Built for the Water, Tested in the Elements

Kymatiq Outdoor mode combines high-frequency smartphone sensors with hydrodynamic algorithms to give paddlers competitive-grade telemetry without extra hardware.

Mechanical Power Engine (Watts)

Calculates real-time paddling wattage by modeling watercraft hydrodynamic drag and instantaneous mass acceleration: P = kdrag · v3 + m · a · v.

🎯

2D Bullseye Spirit Level Clinometer

Real-time dual-axis roll (heel drift) and pitch (trim) monitoring with visual zone safety alerts (±3° Green, ±6° Amber, >6° Red).

📏

Stroke Propulsion (m/stroke)

Measures exact forward glide distance per stroke cycle, allowing athletes to optimize catch efficiency and eliminate drag-producing slip.

🛶

Boat Class Hydrodynamic Presets

Pre-configured drag coefficients (kdrag) for K1 Sprint Kayak / Surfski, K2, K4, C1, C2, Touring Kayaks, and Stand-Up Paddleboards (SUP).

⚖️

Post-Paddle Hull Equilibrium Analytics

Comprehensive post-session stability score (0–100%), roll/pitch tilt charts, average heel drift, and AI coaching balance recommendations.

☀️

Sunlight-Readable Deck Display

High-contrast, large-font 3x2 metric layout designed specifically for glanceable visibility while mounted on your kayak deck under direct sunlight.

How Power (Watts) is Calculated on Water

In open water kayaking, commercial power meters are often expensive or unavailable. Kymatiq solves this using a multi-term hydrodynamic mechanical model:

Ptotal = Pdrag + Paccel = kboat · v3 + (mathlete + mboat) · a · v
  • Water Drag Power (Pdrag): Scales cubically with GPS velocity (v3) multiplied by your boat's calibrated drag coefficient (kboat).
  • Acceleration Power (Paccel): Accounts for stroke drive impulse acceleration (a) against the combined mass of athlete and watercraft.
  • Custom Profile Inputs: Enter your athlete weight and boat mass in settings to receive tailored, accurate watt readouts.

Instantaneous Power Output

218 W

Calculated via 100Hz Motion & High-Precision GPS

2D Bullseye Level Spirit Clinometer

Excessive hull roll increases wet surface drag, reducing boat speed by up to 12%. Kymatiq's live 2D clinometer gives instant visual feedback to refine your posture and stroke balance.

OPTIMAL TRIM (< 3°)

Green Zone (Stable Hull)

Minimal lateral tilt. Hull glides at maximum hydrodynamic efficiency with minimal surface drag.

HEEL DRIFT (3°–6°)

Amber Zone (Caution)

Slight heel drift detected. Adjust catch angle and core engagement to balance left/right stroke drive.

HIGH TILT (> 6°)

Red Zone (High Tilt Alert)

Significant roll instability. High risk of drag penalty or capsize in rough open-water surf.

Everything You Need to Know About Outdoor Mode

How does Kymatiq calculate power in Watts on open water?

Kymatiq uses a hydrodynamic model combining water drag resistance (kdrag · v3) and stroke acceleration impulse (mtotal · a · v) based on high-frequency GPS speed and smartphone IMU motion data.

Do I need external sensors to use Outdoor Mode?

No! Outdoor Mode works completely standalone using your smartphone's built-in GPS and IMU accelerometers. Optional Bluetooth Heart Rate straps can also be paired.

How do I calibrate my phone on the kayak deck?

Simply mount your phone on the deck, align the kayak on flat water, and tap the 1-Tap Zero Baseline button in Kymatiq before starting your session.

Is Kymatiq suitable for Surfski and ocean paddling?

Yes! The 2D Spirit Level Clinometer and high-contrast metric layout were specifically designed for ocean ski paddlers tackling swell, surf, and windy open water conditions.
